Ikorodu LG Legislative Arm Confirms 23 Cabinet Nominees

Four days after the Lagos State Government released the list of the 17 approved names for the Secretary to the Ikorodu Local Government, Supervisors and Special Advisers to the Chairman, the list was eventually released to the council’s legislative arm for screening.

But, instead of the 17-man list, a total of 23 nominees were screened by the 7th Ikorodu LG Legislative House presided over by Hon. Wasiu Sotomiwa, which drilled the mominees from morning till evening.

It was shocking to most of the nominees who see themselves as party leaders, candidates of party stalwarts and friends of the honourable councilkors as the honourable house played down partisanship and engaged them in serious business.

Some of those that appeared in the house screening were sent out of the plenary on multiple times for lack of preparation or conduct contrary to the House Rules, but were made to reappear. Eventually, they were all screened and confirmed for the inauguration by the Executive Chairman, Ikorodu LG, Hon. Adedayo Ladega on Friday.

While appearing before the House, nominees presented their CV, tax clearance, LASRRA card, APC membership card, voter’s card, credentials among others. During the thorough screening, some of the cabinet nominees who did not present correct documents or up to date documents were also given time to avail the House the necessary requirements considering the time frame given to them to appear.

Among the screened nominees were Mr Yusuf Gbadebo, a former supervisor, who we gathered will be appointed as the Secretary to the Local Government, and three former Council Leaders – Hon. Adebowale Adebola Ajayi, Hon. Azeez Jimoh Olosugbo and Hon. Babatunde Awojobi.

Others were former councillors, supervisors and special advisers – Hon. Olohunwa Oluwasegun Oshodi (Gino), former two – terms councillor, Prince Lateef Oyefusi, former Supervisor for Revenue, Mr Animashaun Olawale Mutiu, former Supervisor for Health and Education, Alhaji Musbau Alejo, former Supervisor for Agriculture and Mr Kazeem Sowemimo, also a former Supervisor.

Also appearing before the honourable councilors for screening were Mr Sheu Babatunde Shokeyo, Mr Makati Babatunde Alade, Mr Oyenuga Olasupo Joshua, Mrs Motunrayo Oluwanishola, Mr Nofiu Luqman Adeniyi, Mr Muhydeen Ayodele Are, Mr Abdulfatai Olalekan Ibrahim, Mr Mojeed Oluwaseun Kara, Mr Murisiku Ajisebutu, former chairmanship aspirant, Mrs Bimpe Ogbe, former member APC LGA Exco, Mr Oladele Ogunfodunrin, former local government chairmanship aspirant, Mr Abiodun Balogun, former vouncillorship aspirant and Ibrahim Adedeji Erubami

As expected, it was home coming for the three former Council Leaders – Hon. Adebowale, Hon. Olosugbo and Hon. Awojobi, as their screening were done behind the closed doors.

Prince Lateef Oyefusi, a former Supervisor for Revenue in the administration of Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, did not find it easy before the honourable members who drilled him on the performances of the council revenue under the three administrations that he served.

Oyefusi said that the various administrations he served improved on the revenue generation of the council by creating additional area market in Agura/Gberigbe axis.

He also said that he would do better if his nomination was confirmed by the honourable councillors and pledged his full support to the new administration.

Hon. Kemi Buraimoh moved for his confirmation and was supported by Hon. Shokunbi, with the house warning and calling his attention to the working of the new administration and why he should be prepared to give his best to the new government.

A young nominee, Mr Babatunde Alade Makati was one of the nominees that shined like a bright star before the honourable members. Even before he was asked any question, the house commended him for his preparation going by the CV he submitted for the screening.

Makati who holds Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Masters in Transportation, emphasised how he has been assisting young people to develop themselves through his empowerment and support initiatives.

He pledged his support and total commitment to the new administration if confirmed.

Councilor Shafari Adeniyi Much (Arosan), who representing the Ward Makati came from, expressed his satisfaction at his performance and moved the motion for his confirmation which was seconded by the Majority Leader.

A former Principal Secretary to the Chairman, Ikorodu LG, Mrs Motuntayo Oluwanishola, a medical practitioner and public health officer, is one of the nominees that was screened. Hon. Dimeji Oshikoya (Ward G), moved the motion for her confirmation and was supported by Hon. Fatuga.

Mr Abiodun Balogun, a former councillorship aspirant, who holds a masters degree in Marketing impressed the honourable members in his response on the duties and responsibilities of a Council Supervisor.

He was also engaged on what he would bring to the table if he was given the role of a Supervisor for Revenue.

Balogun was confirmed based on the motion moved by Hon. Kemi Buraimoh and supported by Hon. Fatuga, the Deputy Leader.

Mrs Bimpe Oteju Ogbe appearing before the councillors made her civil service experience come to bear on questions raised pertaining to what to expect from her. It was like a homecoming for the nominee who appeared very well known to all the honourable councillors.

At different points during her appearance, she exchanged banters with the honourable members which made her session lively.

The Majority Leader moved the motion for her confirmation which was supported by Hon. Safari Murisiku Adeniyi.

A former local council chairmanship aspirant, Mr Oladele Ogunfodunrin, assured the councillors that he would bring his managerial, leadership and competence to bear if confirmed.

He also highlighted that he would ensure that there would be team work with the staff and good and effective communication and also the introduction of a reward system to encourage productivity and effective working of the system.

Speaking on accountability and transparency, Ogunfodunrin said that he would ensure that public funds are used for the purpose which they are meant for.

The House Majority Leader moved the motion for his confirmation and was seconded by the honourable councillor representing Ward G.

Mr Olawale Mutiu Animashaun, son of Alhaji Musiliu Animashaun, an APC leader who has served for two – terms as a council supervisor and also as member of the council caretaker committee during Mr Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration in Lagos State, also gave good account of himself before the honourable members stating his achievements during the previous administration he served and assuring of giving his best to the new administration if confirmed.

Hon. Olohunwa Oshodi thanked the honourable members for their sense of duty and commitment to ensuring that capable individuals were confirmed to be part of the cabinet.

The former councillor also appreciated party leaders especially Prince Abiodun Ogunleye and the Council Chairman, Hon. Adedayo Ladega for considering him worthy for the appointment.

He pledged his total support for the administration.
